Position title: Qualified Nurse (4 pts) (2 for Barawe and 2 for Ceel-Berde)
Reporting to: Team Leader
Location: Barawe and Ceel-berde, Southwest, Somalia
Job summary:
The purpose of this position is to maintain a caring and high professional standard of nursing care, meeting the needs of the patients in all aspects and promoting job satisfaction in the nursing team. In addition, the jobholder is responsible for the assessment of patient needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of the care plans and the care delivered on daily basis.
Job Responsibilities:
Main duties and Responsibilities:
➢ Ensures that all patients receive optimum care by diagnosis and treat of patients
➢ Plans and organizes the health team activities in consultation with team members
➢ Provides leadership roles for organizing the health team activities in the field
➢ Implements correctly the procedures, protocols and record all data
➢ Plan and deliver health education activities with clients and their relatives
➢ Collaborates with the nurse in charge and attend regularly staff meetings
➢ Provides medical care and advice to patients/ beneficiaries and other staff as
required. Refers more serious cases to the appropriate medical facility or to a visiting medical practitioner.
➢ Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity
➢ Monitor, record and report to the doctor in charge any symptoms and changes in patients’ conditions
➢ Provides mothers and children from the surrounding community with preventative and curative health care services.
➢ Undertakes visits to the local community, as required, in order to assist community members with health-related matters.
➢ Instruct individuals, families and other groups on topics such as health education, disease prevention and childbirth, and develop health improvement programs
➢ Keeps up-to-date with health care issues, particularly those issues affecting mothers and children such as family planning, HIV / AIDS, nutrition and hygiene.
➢ Keeps a stock of informative materials regarding health-related issues, for general use.
➢ To work with team leader, medical staff so as to develop their supervision, training and management skills
➢ Maintains an accurate record of all drugs / medicines disbursed.
➢ Maintains individual files or cards regarding each patient assisted. Keeps accurate records and reports of all treatments, immunizations, weighing, team activities etc.
➢ Helps maintain the Medical Centre in a clean and comfortable condition.
➢ environment for the patients at all times.
➢ Psychological needs-interacts with patients during cares and every time.
➢ Responsible for drug administration and delivering other interventions according to protocol.
➢ Provides emergency care within his/her scope of practice
➢ Training of community volunteers as necessary
➢ Any other tasks required by the line manager.
Skills and qualifications
Essential
• Hold Bachelor degree in General Nursing, or equivalent
• A minimum of 2 years relevant work experience in a busy hospital.
• Experience in OPD and in-patient.
• Excellent command in Somali/English languages
• Computer skills (Ms word, excel, internet, and reporting)
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
• Critical thinking
