Position Title: Education Assistants (2 Positions)
Reporting To: Education Officers
Location: Baidoa (1 Position), Hudur ( 1 Position)
JOB SUMMARY:
The Education Assistant is an integral member of the Education can’t Wait -First Emergency Response (ECW-FER) project in South west state of Somalia and will be responsible for providing essential support and assisting in the implementation of education project activities in Baidoa and Hudur Districts. The primary focus of this role is to ensure that children affected by displacement are enrolled in nearby public schools or Temporary Learning Spaces supported by SOS Children’s Village.
The Education Assistant plays a critical role in ensuring that displaced children have access to quality education and support during times of crisis. By facilitating enrollment, coordinating resources, and engaging the community, the Education Assistant contributes to creating a nurturing and inclusive educational environment for displaced children in Baidoa and Hudur District, in alignment with the objectives of the ECW_FER Project and SOS Children’s Village.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Main duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the implementation of the education activities in the targeted schools in Baidoa and Hudur.
Support the formation of the community education committees (CECs) in all project target sites and closely working with them.
Assist in identifying education gaps and provide detail analysis of the education needs in the targeted districts.
Mobilize the community on the importance of education and ensure they enroll the school age children in the project supported schools.
Develop education action plans and lead the implementation of the action plan by working closely with different stakeholders and consulting with education coordinator.
Provide support to schools’ principals and teachers on school management, in-service staff training and school development planning.
Prepare weekly and monthly education reports and share it with education coordinator.
Coordinate internal assessment and provide support to the assessment team as necessary.
Assist programme locations to ensure that the educational needs and abilities of each child are addressed through continuous monitoring and reviewing of each child’s progress.
Ensure the development of the children’s academic performance in correlation with teachers’ performance.
Facilitate in the identification of children with educational learning difficulties and other problems and initiated.
Establish child right clubs and trained them on various educational and protection themes that relevant to their growth and development.
· Support MEAL activities, including baseline, midline, and end line assessments, and contribute to reporting on the findings.
Assessment teachers’ performance and initiated capacity building support corresponding to the needs identified.
Plan and facilitate regular meetings with all teaching staff including Principals, head teachers & Teachers to discuss current activities, problems, concerns and new ideas, in order to ensure open communication and co-operation.
Supervise field-level distribution and ensure all relevant documentation, including photos, is properly maintained.
Assist in facilitating trainings, coaching and improve instructional practices in literacy, numeracy and social and emotional skills of the learners in schools and technical institutions.
Work closely with the district education officer and other education stakeholders to ensure close coordination and collaboration.
Assist with administrative tasks, including preparing Purchase Requests and following up on necessary actions.
Adhere to child safeguarding policy and ensure children are protected from any harmful practices. Work with child safeguarding staff to identify and report safeguarding issues.
Coordinate with Child Protection staff during field visits and contribute to their reporting.
Collect success stories as needed.
Perform any other reasonable task as assigned by the immediate supervisor from time to time.
Skills and Qualifications
JOB COMPETENCES /QUALIFICATION
· Candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field of study.
· Understanding of context and issues in Baidoa and Hudur District.
· Team-player and ability to work independently.
· Candidate must speak and understand fluently the Maay-Maay Dialect of the Somalia Language.
· Experience working in education projects or with displaced populations is desirable.
· Knowledge of educational systems, enrollment processes, and child protection principles.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with children, families, and community members.
· Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment.
· Organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet project deadlines.
· Proficiency in computer applications and technology for data management and reporting.
· Collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
· Demonstrate a strong facilitation skill, knowledge and understanding on adult training approaches and methodologies and able to adapt different training models.
· Ability to ensure strong community engagement as well as school-based management team and sustain professional working relationship.
· Experience in building partnerships and working collaboratively with stakeholders.
· Proven interest in learning and capacity development, of self and others.
· Proficiency in computer (MS Word, internet, office, excel, power point)
· Understanding local contexts and dialogues is additional value.
