Position: Islamic Religion and Arabic Tutor

Reports to: College Principal

Duty station: Mogadishu/Heliwa

Position summary

The incumbent will work at SOS College of Health Science, where he will be responsible for preparing and delivering courses in Arabic, Islamic studies, and other related subjects to trainees, under the supervision of senior lecturers and the college principal

Job responsibilities:

Ø Develop and adapt instructional materials and resources for Arabic language and Islamic studies courses in accordance with curriculum guidelines and learning objectives.

Ø Create lesson plans and teaching outlines to effectively deliver content and engage students in learning.

Ø Deliver engaging and informative lessons in Arabic language and Islamic studies, utilizing various teaching methods and techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles.

Ø Demonstrate proficiency in Arabic language, both spoken and written, to effectively communicate and teach language skills to students.

Ø Provide instruction in Islamic theology, history, jurisprudence, and other relevant topics, fostering an understanding of Islamic principles and values.

Ø Develop and administer assessments, quizzes, and exams to evaluate students’ understanding and proficiency in Arabic language and Islamic studies

Ø Provide academic support and guidance to students, offering assistance with language acquisition, comprehension, and study skills development.

Ø Provide constructive feedback to students on their performance and progress in Arabic language and Islamic studies and offer recommendations for improvement.

Ø Lead congregational prayers, including the five daily prayers (Salah) and Friday prayers (Jumu’ah), according to Islamic tradition and practices.

Ø Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support student learning and academic success, and communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding students’ progress and needs.

Ø Provide spiritual guidance, counseling, and support to individual staff, young people and SOS families in matters related to faith, morality, and personal challenges, maintaining confidentiality and empathy.

To undertake such other duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the post.

Skills and Qualifications
Job competencies:

The candidate vying for the position has to fulfil the following conditions to be eligible to the person. The candidate should:

Ø Hold a master’s degree or equivalent in Arabic and Islamic Studies or a closely related field.

Ø Have at least 3 years of relevant teaching experience in education, particularly in Arabic language and Islamic studies or related subjects at university level or equivalent.

Ø Show proficiency in developing and implementing curriculum and instructional materials for the stated courses.

Ø Having a proven track record of research in Arabic language and Islamic studies, evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals would be an added value.

Ø Understanding of Islamic jurisprudence and legal principles, including their application in contemporary contexts.

Ø Mastery of classical Arabic language skills to accurately interpret and teach classical Islamic texts and literature.

Ø Exhibit strong interpersonal skills to interact with students, colleagues, and other stakeholders.

Ø Be adaptable to changing educational environments and able to incorporate new teaching strategies and technologies.

Ø Have good communication, mentoring, coaching & presentation skills.

Ø Handle student information and academic records, adhering to institutional policies and relevant regulation

Ø Have a ToT/ToF training certificate.

Ø Be a computer literate

Ø Be a good team player.

Ø Report writing skills

Ø Counseling skills

Ø Computer application skills

Ø Persuasion and negotiation skills
