SOS Children’s Villages invites applications from suitably qualified and interested candidates who fulfill the eligibility criterion for the below one Position.

Position: English Tutor

Reports to: College Principal

Duty station: Mogadishu/Heliwa

Job summary:

The English Tutor will provide comprehensive English language instruction and support to non-native English-speaking college students. The tutor will assist students in improving their English language skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking to help them succeed academically and professionally. The tutor will also develop and deliver curriculum and instructional materials tailored to the needs of non-native English speakers.

Job responsibilities:

· Provide individual and small group tutoring sessions to SOS College of Health Science students

· Assist students in understanding and mastering English language skills, including grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and conversation.

· Offer guidance on academic writing, reading, comprehension, listening, speaking and effective study strategies.

· Offer workshops and seminars on English language-related topics, such as effective communication, academic integrity, and study skills.

· Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that align with university standards and the specific needs of non-native English speakers.

· Incorporate diverse teaching methods and materials to address different learning styles and levels of proficiency.

· Assess students’ language proficiency through formal and informal assessments.

· Provide constructive feedback on students’ progress and areas for improvement.

· Track and document student performance and progress.

· Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate language support services into academic programs.

· Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in English language instruction and pedagogy.

· Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, student progress, and other relevant documentation.

· Prepare reports and communicate with the department regarding student needs and program effectiveness.

· Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

· Undertake such other duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the post.

Skills and Qualifications
Job competencies:

The candidate vying for the position has to fulfil the following conditions to be eligible to the person. The candidate should:

· Possess 3 years of experience teaching English language at a university or other higher education institutions.

· Hold a master’s degree or its equivalent in English language or a related field

· Have good communication, mentoring, coaching & presentation skills.

· Observe confidentiality and privacy.

· Be proficient in in written & spoken English.

· Have a ToT/ToF training certificate.

· Be a good team player.

· Report writing skills

· Counseling skills

· Computer application skills

· Good presentation skills

· Persuasion and negotiation skills
