SOS Children’s Villages invite applications from suitably qualified and interested candidates who fulfill the eligibility criterion for the below position.

Position title: Vaccinator

Reporting to: Head Nurse

Location: Hudur,Bakool,Somalia

Job summary:

As the Vaccinator you are expected to support health care team at SOS Medical centre/Outreach. Additionally, you will be registering children over 5 years within the program. The employee will work under the guidance of the facility supervisor. The employee will also provide assistance to the other medical care team where appropriate, recognizing that the effective management of the program depends on effective communication and participation of all members of the team.

Job Responsibilities:

Main duties and Responsibilities:

1. Registers each child under 5 years brought for vaccination by parent/caregiver.

2. Uses tally-sheet for record keeping and reporting reference for any EPI service provided.

3. Explains immunization benefits to parents/caregivers and gets permission before vaccination.

4. Vaccinates each child according to guideline and schedule.

5. Listens and provides answers for vaccine concerns for parent/caregivers.

6. Keeps confidentiality and maintains professionalism, visibility, and integrity.

7. Controlling stock balance of vaccine.

8. Controls vaccine quality, temperature, and expiry date.

9. Maintains conducting daily follow up of EPI Beneficiary and collaborates with Maternity team for PNC & Vaccination house visit.

10. Gives health education all mothers with under five children and pregnant mothers in MCH like exclusive breast feeding, Nutrition, good hygiene and importance of vaccine.

11. Prepares weekly and monthly statistics report of the MCH.

12. Undertake any other duties assigned by his/her supervisor.

Skills and qualifications
Essential

• Diploma or any equivalent and certified document in nursing

• Literate in spoken and written English

• Previous experience as a vaccinator

• Clear style of giving instructions

• Gently with children with honed technique to give immunizations

• Basic math skills.

• Interpersonal skills.

• File management skills.

• Able to persistently and effectively tackle complex problems

• Able to work with a variety of people in a remote setting

• Independent, self-motivated, confident, interested in learning and committed to excellence.
