Position: GAVI Project Coordinator
Report to: SHACDO H&N Coordinator/ Field Coordinator
Job station: This position will be based in Afgoye district in lower Shabelle region with potential visits to any expanded program locations in the region.

Shabelle Community Development organization (SHACDO) is a Humanitarian, Non-profit and non-governmental organization dedicated to responding to humanitarian emergences through provision of life-saving support mechanisms in partnership with national and international role players, promoting peace and stability, advocate against all kinds of violence, initiate long term and short-term development projects. SHACDO prioritizes to identify the most appropriate targets for their projects where the poorest communities are suffering most.
General Description of the Role:
Working under the guidance and supervision of the H&N Project Coordinator and Field Coordinator, the GAVI Project Coordinator will be directly responsible for the day to day implementation of the GAVI project’s immunization interventions which includes: Facility based immunization service and outreach teams accessing the immunization service to the Zero dose children. He/she will be responsible for effectively managing the project, developing strategies and working and coordinating with MOH and any other local stakeholders to negotiate for access ensure to reach the services to the most vulnerable zero dose children. The Project Coordinator will participate in any exercises organized to collect data at household, community and district level, and work closely with others in the team at all times.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program implementation and Development
· Lead the GAVI project immunization team and ensure the effective implementation of the GAVI project
· Develop comprehensive access strategy to promote, create awareness raising and advocate for support to the project’s immunization campaigns.
· Coordinate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of immunization programs.
· Ensure timely distribution and administration of vaccines.
· Monitor and report on immunization coverage rates and progress.
· Train and mentor the project’s health staff under GAVI project and the community based health workers through identification of capacity gaps and carrying out refresher trainings and on job trainings.
· Develop key messages of immunization benefits to the targeted beneficiaries, and ensure it is delivered appropriately by the teams involved
· With support by H&N Coordinator, ensure the project staff to carry out child immunization counseling through one-to-one and support group sessions.
· Collaborate with healthcare providers, community leaders, and government agencies.
· Conduct regular meetings and communication with stakeholders to ensure program alignment and address any challenges.
· Alert the H&N Coordinator to any increase in incidence of communicable diseases such as measles, polio, AWD/cholera or others either in the Centre or in the communities. Organize and supervise in any campaigns such as de- worming, hygiene promotion, etc as required.
· Produce and agree weekly, monthly and quarterly work plans and reports with the coordination and support from the project staff and the district Health and Nutrition Field Officer.
· Compile and submit weekly, biweekly or/and monthly reports as per partner requirement of all the activities implemented and prepare supply requisitions.
· Lease with Supply Chain Department in logistical Program in demand and Monitoring Supply control.
· Stock monitoring of commodities under GAVI to ensure consist supplies availability for the project.
· Participate in team meetings and other meetings/trainings as requested
· Carry out other activities as agreed with the line manager and SHACDO management staff.
Monitoring and Reporting
· Maintain accurate records of immunization activities and coverage data.
· Analyze data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement.
· Prepare and submit regular reports to the Program Manager and relevant authorities.
· Keep and submit stock records and other supplies.
· Undertake regular visits to the field to supervise work and staff and also get feedback from all parties and communities and report back with findings/recommendations
· Work closely and give support to SHACDO H&N and other teams as needed to expand the reach of the program
· Able to take any other assigned Jobs
Skills and Qualifications
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications/Experience/Expertise:
· Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Medicine, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
· Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in public health, with a focus on immunization programs.
· Strong knowledge of immunization practices, policies, and guidelines.
· Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
· Proficiency in data analysis and reporting
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
· Good interpersonal public relations skills and demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with various stake holders including but not limited to the community, government, SHACDO partners and donor officials
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience working with international and national health organizations.
· Knowledge of local health systems and community dynamics.
· Familiarity with immunization registries and health information systems.
· Ability to demonstrate multi-task including strong facilitation, negotiation skills in an ever changing, dynamic environment
· Competency in computer skills including MS Office Fluency in English and Somali
