Internal/External vacancy for Public Health and Nutrition Nurse

Level 3: Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; ore because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff

ROLE PURPOSE:

Public Health and nutrition Nurse support by enhancing the preparedness and resilience of the nutrition sector and the affected communities to cope with and respond to potential shocks and emergencies, such as droughts, floods, conflicts, and disease outbreaks. The post holder support implementation of priority anticipatory nutrition actions to mitigate the impact of foreseeable crises and reduce humanitarian needs and costs for nutrition. The post holder will support Nutrition interventions that can be implemented through anticipatory action framework like community mobilization activities to enhance nutritional screening, Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E) SBCC intervention to promote, support and protect infant and young child feeding behaviors and practices. Technical support provided to local health care work force and communities to build more resilient local health and nutrition systems and ensure that vulnerable populations have access to the essential nutrition services, and to enhance the capacity of health facilities to diagnose, treat, and prevent malnutrition, through community-based interventions, before the situation deteriorates, saving lives and reducing suffering. Strengthening of surveillance system, Establish/strengthening of RRT and closely works with other thematic sectors like WaSH and livelihood

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Report to: Woreda H&N Team Lead

Dimensions: Save the Children works in 9 regions in Ethiopia with a current staff complement of approximately 1,800 staff and a current expenditure of approximately $90+ million each year.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Support Woreda Health office and PHCU in anticipatory Health and nutrition activities.
Ensure all project materials are supplied to PHCU and in place whenever during service provision.
Responsible for multi-sectoral initial rapid assessment data collection and analysis when needed.
.
Responsible to ensure the quality of Maternal and child health at Health facilities as per guidelines
Responsible for preparing project detail implementation plan and procurement plan.
Ensure key accountability issues addressed during the implementation of project deliverables.
Improving basic preventive health care at community level with emphasis health, immunization, and health and nutrition services.
Support in Conducting & undertaking PHC on MCH, consultation & provide proper treatment based on the protocol.
Strengthening of linkages and coordination mechanisms between community and the woreda health bureaus.
Plan and implement project outlined in the protocol for OTP and SC to achieve objectives of the project.
Will help facilitate admission of the patient at the OTP, and SC, TSFP
Ensure each admitted child receives adequate and quality clinical and nutritional care through existing resources.
Ensure at all times adequately equipped and supplied with the necessary nutritional and clinical requirements – Plumpy’nut, Vitamin A, routine drugs, nutritional equipment, nutritional/medical stationeries, etc.
Assisting the planning and promotion of awareness creation on nutrition and preventative health care issues in the community.
Capacitate Health Extension workers’ competency in delivering compressive primary health care service at the health post.
Leading project team to use the organization’s properties like vehicles effectively and efficiently.
Closely work with other sector staff (WaSH and FSL)
Closely work with LIP ERCS on the project progress and report
Perform other extra duties as required
Report any problems in a timely manner to the program manager

Skills and qualifications
B.A/BSC degree in agriculture, livelihoods, rural development, economics or related field.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

At least 3 years of proven experience in livelihoods, animal health, NRM and DRR, food security, and/or emergency livelihood/food security interventions in NGOs or similar organizations in pastoral areas for degree holders and 5 years of experience with Diploma Holders with similar field of study.
Strong Knowledge of Cash Transfer Modality and Selection Criteria and livestock interventions
Substantial experience in managing teams, coordinating, mobilizing community, planning, implementation, supervision, monitoring, and reporting
Proven ability to manage a complex and demanding workload
Excellent Report Writing and English proficiency skills
Experience and knowledge of pastoral context preferably Somali region and knowledge of Somali language is advantageous
Good advocacy, communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to train and mentor staff
Work experience in diverse international NGOs is an asset
Ability and willingness to travel and work in rural areas where the project is implemented

Knowledge of the local language (language)
