Pharo Foundation’s education mission is implemented through the Pharo-brand schools, ranging from kindergarten, to primary and secondary. The Foundation operates four Pharo schools in Somaliland, Vocational Training Center, Pharo Kindergarten, Pharo Primary, and Pharo Secondary Boarding school in Sheikh district.

Position Summary
Position: ICT Teacher Assistant
Location: Hargeisa
Reporting to: ICT Teacher
The Information Communication Technology (ICT) Teacher Assistant supports the maintenance of the operations of our student computer lab; and instructing students and staff in the use of computer lab technology and software applications; and monitoring students’ activities in the computer lab.
This position requires an individual that will promote computer literacy among our students and helps students to develop confidence in their computer skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Learning support
Provides instruction and assistance to students in the use and application of computer aided learning and instructional software.
Provides assistance to students in accessing and utilisation of computer resources, e.g., learning modules, internet research.
Facilities computer testing activities; maintains records and distributes to teachers and parents accordingly.
Assists in the preparation of lesson plans and teacher’s pre-planning sessions.
Prepares or assists in the preparation of instructional materials.
Maintains accurate and complete records of student activities and behaviour which may require the use of a computer terminal to enter student information and data; completes applicable forms, schedules, and instructional reports, as directed.
2. Enhancing learning environment
Monitors student activities while in the computer lab for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment that is conducive to learning.
Maintains the learning space in a neat and tidy condition in order to create an environment conducive to activities.
Assists the I teacher in performing duties such as designing, and setting up bulletin boards, classroom decorations, displays of student activities, etc., within the learning environment.
Reinforces rules of the school and learning environment; acknowledges and encourages appropriate behaviour and distinguishes inappropriate behaviour for the students’ understanding.
3. Computer laboratory maintenance
Performs routine and preventive maintenance of computer lab and classroom equipment (e.g. dusting, cleaning, virus scanning, creating/clearing internet bookmarks, defragmenting, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
Maintains computer hardware and software applications inventory for the purpose of ensuring availability of equipment and/or instructional material in computer lab.
Maintains computer lab (e.g. instructional materials, appropriate software, sets up materials for daily activities, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of equipment and programs to enhance the instructional program.
Troubleshoots malfunctions of hardware and/or software applications for the purpose of determining appropriate actions to maintain computer lab operations.
4. Pharo school staff activities
Actively participates in all school meetings and school or school activities such as sports days, cultural activities and plays.
Maintains close contact with parents discussing the child’s progress and general development.
Prepares documentation (e.g. reports, instructions, memos, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
5. General administration
Organises and supervises extra-mural activities such as organised contests, clubs, sports etc.
Performs administrative or other extra duties as required by the principal, such as store keeping, producing the school magazine or organising school events.
Troubleshoots minor IT related issues in the school.
Handles and maintains the school management information system MIS.
Skills and Qualifications
Qualifications Requirements
The ideal candidate should possess a bachelor’s degree in IT related fields.
S/He must possess a minimum of at least one (1) year professional experience in Primary Education.
Be fluent in English with the ability to read aloud to young learners and demonstrate activities, as well as encourage class participation.
