About PASOS

PASOS is a nationwide non-governmental, nonprofit organization that works to end hunger and poverty in marginalized communities. PASOS is dedicated to providing life-saving assistance during emergencies, improving the wellbeing of vulnerable populations throughout Somalia, with a particular emphasis on development and resilience-building programs. We carry out significant projects that promote long-term stability and empowerment for individuals in need throughout the regions of Southwest State, Banadir, Jubbaland and Galmudug

Organizational Specific Objectives

· Alleviate poverty by improving economic status of vulnerable communities through enhanced food production by providing farm implements and inputs and diversification of income generating activities

· enhance emergency response and livelihood crisis intervention through provision of Food/Cash/Non-food items Relief kits delivery, Livestock take-off /re-stocking, Water trucking to pastoralists and provision of temporary shelters.

· Improve access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) conditions of the poor communities through construction and/or rehabilitation of water catchment dams, installing water tanks and construction of underground water tanks, provision of sanitation facilities and hygiene awareness training and promotion hygiene education.

· Improve access to education by children and youth through provision of facilities, teaching and learning materials.

· Eradicate harmful cultural practices like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriages.

· Increase opportunities for youth and Adult to further their education through distance learning.

· Improve health status of communities through health education; environmental cleanliness, hygiene promotion and increasing access to primary health and child care centers in area of operation.

· Enhance environmental education, awareness and participation in environmental protection and conservation activities by the communities

· Promote peaceful co-existence and proactively resolve conflicts

· Empower the youth to contribute to the social, economic and political development of their community

· Create awareness of issues surrounding children in difficult circumstances with particular regard to child abuse and neglect livelihood.

Nature of Economic Development Officer

· Community: An economic development officer is dedicated to support the economic growth of the servicing community particularly VSLA’s, agropastoral association, farmers association and community small business to reach resilient and development and economic free dependance.

· Organization: participate identification of potential partnerships, contribute project development, institutional policy development frameworks

Why Economic Development Officer

PASOS is looking for an Economic Development Officer with a lot of drive and expertise to join the team and capable to participate the economic development of the institution, identify the possible opportunities and strongly support the community by providing durable solutions for the small income and dependent community associations (VSLA etc.). under this position the successfully candidate will coordinate development & growth plans, identify the potential growths partnerships, coordinate economic & growth activities, promote economic sustainability and prosperity. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in economic development, excellent analytical skills, and a passion for creating opportunities.

Job Description

· Strategic planning: Economic Development Officer develop strategic plans to aid ensure sustainable economic growth and can analyze economic data, market trends, and other relevant factors to identify potential opportunities and challenges to economic development by using their strategic planning skills.

· Business development: Individuals in this role often have strong business development skills to identify and attract new partnerships. This involves developing relationships with collaborative partners and donors, understanding their needs and requirements, and presenting compelling reasons why they can benefit from partnering with PASOS in elevating humanitarian crisis and encouraging resilient communities, small business owners and community associations.

· Communication: Economic Development Officer require skills in marketing and promotion to create a positive image of the implementing activities to demonstrative available public show project activity, success histories, production quality video and photos, spread to all public available social media, pasos website, united nation coordination units.

· Economic analysis: Individuals in this position have a strong understanding of economic principles and can conduct economic analysis to assess the potential impact of proposed economic development projects. The candidate can consider economic data, partnerships, community development interesting international economic developers.

· Grand Writing: Economic Development Officer write grants to secure funding for economic development initiatives. They understand how to write compelling documents, how to submit these documents or give presentations, and what grants may be available

· Relationship building: should have skills in building and maintaining relationships with our current partner, new partners, community leaders, and government officials. They can communicate effectively and build trust to gain support for economic development-initiatives.

· Community Development: has strong capacity to participate building community existing business, villages saving and loans, pastoral associations, agro-association, small business to create existing business finances.

Skills and qualifications
Education:

University degree in Agricultural, Economics and Project management
Work Experience:

Minimum 2-3 years previous experience working in economic recovery and livelihood programs, including cash-for-work, unconditional cash transfers, economic development positions, support for agricultural initiatives, vocational training, and partner management and NGO experience
Statistics, data analysis, data-driven computation are all relevant areas of experience
Knowledge about the southwest state context is a significant advantage.
Proposal Writing and grant writing
Proven Technical Skills:

Experience with descriptive data analysis and/or data management.
Able to think critically about data and information, triangulating and cross-checking when needed and with minimal guidance.
Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office (in particular, Excel).
Competencies in Managerial/Leadership:

Good analytical and reporting skills with attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal and time leadership skills and being able to meet deadlines.
Good communication and social skills and ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
Languages:

Fluent in English
