ABOUT HURDO
The Humanitarian Umbrella for Relief and Development Organization (HURDO) is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit, and non-political organization established in 2014 to ensure sustainable and build up inclusive social development and to protect human rights, saving and improving lives, building resilience, and creating lasting solutions for the most vulnerable, poorest, and marginalized families affected by poverty and natural disasters. HURDO was established to address the insistent needs of marginalized communities in the south-central zone of Somalia. Our Main objective is to empower individuals and communities through holistic development initiatives, focusing on the fundamental resources that can help breaking the cycle of poverty and create lasting positive change in the community.
To this end, HURDO:
· Empowers individuals and families to achieve food security and improve their livelihoods and addressing food insecurity and poverty in underserved communities.
· Improves access to quality healthcare services for underserved population and addressing healthcare disparities, promote preventive care, and enhance overall health outcomes in communities.
· Provides access to quality education for children from marginalized communities and to empower learners, educators, and communities, fostering lifelong learning, critical thinking, and socio-economic development.
· Promotes gender equality and empower women by addressing gender-based discrimination, promoting women’s rights, protection and providing support services to survivors of gender-based violence.
· Provides help to effected people by the Natural calamities and to alleviate suffering, restore dignity, and rebuild lives in the aftermath of disasters.
· Realizes stability, reconciliation, and sustainable peace in societies affected by conflict and elevating all dimensions of conflict and building long-term resilience within societies.
· Improves access to and the quality of essential services related to water supply, sanitation facilities, hygiene practices and promoting sustainable development through effective WASH interventions.
JOB SUMMARY
In recent years, HURDO organization has experienced healthy annual growth, and is looking to diversify its donor and funding base. The HURDO organization is therefore seeking a consultant to conduct a comprehensive donor scoping exercise with a view to identify and secure new funding streams to operationalize HURDO’s 2024-2028 Strategic plan. Under the guidance of HURDO’s Development Manager and Executive director, the Consultant will play a pivotal role in identifying and cultivating relationships with potential donors to support our organization’s fundraising goals. You will utilize your expertise in data analysis, research, and strategic planning to expand our donor base and increase philanthropic support.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Review HURDO’s 2024-2028 Strategic Plan, Resource Mobilization Ethics Policy, and other relevant documents
· Conduct a general assessment of the fundraising performance and capacity of HURDO, and define quick wins and risks.
· Conduct intake sessions with the Executive Directors and Development Manager to discuss ambitions, ideal funders HURDO is looking for, current and past pipeline of donors, growth trajectory, and fundraising needs;
· Donor Mapping: Identify donors for HURDO’s existing and planned initiatives. The donor mapping exercise should explore opportunities among HURDO’s traditional donor bases, as well as opportunities from other funding sources – primarily bilateral donors, as well as foundations, private sector actors and potential high net-worth individuals aligned with HURDO’s core values and ethics.
· Donor Prioritization and Segmentation: Identify priority donors with a high likelihood for supporting HURDO’s work and Humanitarian assignments.
· Collect additional necessary information needed by donor’s current and future funding priorities, cycles of funding, and types of funding (restricted vs unrestricted, etc.)
· Collaborate closely with HURDO’s development Manager to create tailored cultivation plans for prospective donors.
· Develop and implement effective prospecting strategies to identify high-potential donors who align with HURDO’s mission and values.
· Research and evaluate potential new donors using databases, networks, and publicly available information.
· Prepare clear and concise reports, presentations, and visualizations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
Skills and Qualifications
· University degree, or equivalent training/experience, focus in international development, community development, Fundraising, human rights, or a related field preferred;
· 15 years of proven experience in donor mapping, prospecting, and fundraising within the humanitarian sector or as a consultant.
· Understanding of the unique political challenges involved in fundraising for this work.
