Human Appeal has been operating in Somalia since 2016 with pilot projects through local partners, however, the country office was officially established in in March 2017 and since then, the CO has
been supporting the affected populations and people in need in the country through FSL, WASH, Health, Shelter/NFIs, Nutrition, Protection and Orphan & Child Welfare. Our skilled local teams are
able to access some of the most hard-to-reach places in the world, at their most vulnerable of times
POSITION BACKGROUND
Working under the supervision of Logistic and Administrative Officer based in Mogadishu, the holder of this position will be responsible for cooking for the office and guesthouse.
Prepare refreshments for all the staff and the guesthouse residents twice per day
Cooking serving food
Responsible for all basic cleaning in and around the kitchen area.
Setting up the daily menus, preparing and serving breakfast and lunches to the staff three times per day
Knowledge and experience of cooking expatriate foods
Responsible for daily shopping and proper storage of the foodstuff.
Ensuring that products used for meals are of good quality;
Keeping record on and maintaining food-stuff of the office’s kitchen
Participating in the organization and preparation of the catering for official receptions, receiving visiting officials by serving them refreshments and meals;
Maintaining the cooking premises clean, ensuring the cleaning of all kitchen utensils on a daily basis
Serves meals by reviewing recipes; assembling, combining, and cooking ingredients; and maintaining a sanitary kitchen.
Cooking food in various utensils or grillers
Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
Monitor stock and place orders when there are shortages
Prepares ingredients by following recipes; slicing, cutting, chopping, mincing, stirring, whipping, and mixing ingredients; adding seasonings; verifying taste; and plating meals.
Completes hot meal preparation by grilling, sautéing, roasting, frying, and broiling ingredients and assembling and refrigerating cold ingredients
Coordinates daily food supply inventory for cafeteria. Submits order to supervisor.
Disinfecting the kitchen once a week;
Performing other duties as required
Cleaning kitchen area:
Dispose all leftovers according to established standards
Adheres to proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures; maintains temperature and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point.
Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, food storage, and work areas
Completes cleaning according to daily and weekly schedules and dishwashing/pot washing as needed.
Skills and qualifications
· Secondary education from an accredited academic institution in Mogadishu.
· Cook experience within Mogadishu for at least 5 years.
. Must be fluency in Somali and basics English & Arabica.
