POSITION SUMMARY
Amtel is one of the major and the fastest growing telecommunication companies in Somalia. The accountant is responsible for ensuring that all financial assets of Amtel are kept, processed, and dispensed in a safe and efficient manner. This position manages key financial accounts of the company and ensures that all books, logs and files of all transactions are accurately and efficiently recorded and kept. The incumbent develops and manages budgets of the company. He/she coordinates all payables and receivables, processes payrolls and ensures that all taxes and deductions are paid in a complete and timely manner, ensuring the integrity of accounting information and recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions into the established systems in an efficient and accurate manner. S/He is also responsible for reporting costs, productivity, margins, and expenditure s of Amtel. This position manages a section, large subsection, or function within the Finance Department, including supervision of heads of subsections and general staff. This position directly reports CA/CFO
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary functions and duties of this position include the following:
Financial Reporting.
• Collaborate with the Finance team to prepare accurate and timely draft financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement) in accordance with IFRS.
• Ensure uniformity, accuracy, and compliance of accounting data related to the ERP Odoo.
Budget Management:
• Meticulously record all budgetary allocations and track spending against those allocations throughout the fiscal year.
• Proactively monitor and analyse budget variances, identifying potential overspending and collaborating with relevant departments to implement corrective actions.
• Investigate and analyse variances between budget and actual results to identify spending trends and areas for improvement. Prepare clear and concise reports to communicate finance head.
Transaction Processing & General Ledger:
• Validate the accuracy and completeness of all financial transactions (receipts, disbursements, journal entries) before posting them to the general ledger.
• Ensure all transactions are posted to the appropriate general ledger accounts according to the established chart of accounts.
• Regularly reconcile subsidiary ledgers (e.g., accounts payable, accounts receivable) with the general ledger to identify and resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Calculate assigned accruals. Prepare and record related journal entries
• Process and integrate salary advance/loan requests into the payroll system, ensuring timely deductions and accurate record-keeping.
• Collaborate with HR to ensure new employee additions and terminations are reflected accurately and efficiently in the payroll system, verifying all necessary documentation.
Year-End Close & Internal Controls:
• Assist the senior team with month-end closing procedures, ensuring all accounts are reconciled and accurate before financial statements are finalized.
• Contribute to a strong system of internal controls by adhering to established policies and procedures and identifying potential control weaknesses for improvement.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Proactively stay updated on relevant telecommunications industry regulations and accounting standards.
• Assist with various finance projects as assigned, demonstrating your adaptability and willingness to learn new skills.
• Perform other related duties as required.
• Lead a dedicated team of accountants, promoting a culture focused on excellence & innovation.
Skills and Qualifications
• Bachelor of Accounting or Finance degree from a recognized university.
• Must possess 3-4 years of accounting experience in a well-established company/organization.
• Knowledge and understanding of the International Financial Reporting Standards on receivables and revenue recognition, accounting, and reporting in the financial statements.
• Good knowledge of bank reconciliations.
• Strong analytical skills and a keen attention to details; and
• Self-directed, results oriented, and ability to work with limited supervision.
