Position: Business Support Assistant

Location: Kismayo, Lower Juba, Somalia

Duration: 5 months, renewable based on performance, funds, and need for the position

Under SEPOW program, Alight intends to promote entrepreneurship culture among ultra-poor households in Kismayo through Promoting Entrepreneurship Knowledge, Attitude and Practices. The proposed business development component entails; business skills training, mentorship & asset transfer for investment. The initiative will help in enhancing their entrepreneurial spirit and establishing small and medium enterprises that will foster sustainable improvement in household income.

JOB SUMMARY/ ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Bussiness Support Assistant will support Promotion of Entrepreneurship Development and Support services. As an Business support Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting the implementation of BHA Project’s plan to support Restoration of flood and drought affected businesses as well as support Income Generation activities as new livelihood for drought affected pastoralist dropouts in Luglaw IDP settlement in Kismayo. with the intention of empowering them to start and grow their own businesses. You will work closely with project Manager and Field officer as well as other stakeholders at the field level including women entrepreneurs, community leaders, and partner organizations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

§ Support Alight in conducting Business management skills training for drought affected pastoralist drop out

§ Support third-party contracted consultant Conducting Business skills training at the field level.

§ Support Alight in Facilitating Business idea development, Screening and validation process by provide one-on-one guidance and support to drought displaced pastoralist dropouts in developing and refining their business ideas, plans, and strategies.

§ Facilitate connections between the new businesses and Alight for progress and report any challenges they face.

§ Provide mentoring of the new businesses to address their challenge and ensure they are motivated.

§ Conduct regular monitoring and provide monthly report to Project manager on progress achieved by the new busineses.

§ Monitoring Business Growth and document success; Regularly providing mentoring support.

§ Monitoring Business management practices of the new business owners in regards of practicing skills acquired during Business management skills training. A set of Business status monitoring tools will be developed to guide this process.

§ Conduct case studies to report success stories; this will Contribute towards generating and documenting overall project lessons learned with the aim of informing NGOs and governmental actors wishing to replicate our BHA response approach in Somalia.

§ Support the project manager in conducting all Community mobilization and sensitization forums which will be conducted throughout the project period.

§ Conduct Community & stakeholder sensitization at the field level on project activities and plans.

§ Support program team in raising all the Procurement requests and participate other necessary procurement processes as may be required.

§ Ensure coordination and collaboration with other Stakeholders including Government and humanitarian agencies.

Skills and Qualifications

Qualifications:

· Qualified in Business management with at least Diploma level academic achievements.

· Excellent management and personnel skills to enable the motivation, encouragement and mentoring new business

· Ability and flexibility to understand the cultural and political environment and to work well with the community and other project staff.

· Ability to work with a team while developing and implementing programs.

· Excellent communication skills, with good spoken and written English and experience in report writing.

· Good computer skills to allow reporting and representation.

Key Behaviors & Abilities:

· Previous experience within a humanitarian aid organization.

· Previous experience working in Kismayo

· Excellent computer skills to allow reporting and representation.

· Ability to remain calm and to be diplomatic, both with the local authorities and with the community.

· Good organizational skills.
