The responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have contact with or access to children or young people.
ROLE PURPOSE:
The Driver and Liaison is accountable for ensuring safe and efficient vehicle driving in or out of Dollo Field Office and over the weekends providing transport services from different SCI program request centres to various destinations driving through off roads and under all weather conditions, taking responsibilities for passengers and vehicular equipment. Prepares and submit monthly vehicle usage report to his immediate supervisor; Keep up to date data on fuel consumption and other incidental costs. Use log sheet for the day-to-day movement and should be familiar with and adhere safety and security guidelines of Save the Children International.
The Driver and Liaison should be able to communicate in English to some extent, when working with foreigners and guests. The Driver and Liaison should also have a liaising for collecting tasks from different departments and
dispatching them to the concerned SCI partners, collects mails from post office and hand over to
Field Office reception makes payments for electric, water, telephone bills for area office. Communication
Skill is required to serving as a liaising focal point with different agencies and offices.
SCOPE OF ROLE:

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Operate articulated vehicles:
In a safe and efficient, manner to minimize the risk of loss or damage of SCI or third-party property. Always Receive the vehicle with its accessories through hand-over documents and signs same for receipt of vehicle with its accessories
Performs daily, weekly vehicle checks and maintains cleanness of trucks.
Make sure passengers’ goods and materials are properly loaded and unloaded.
Uses the vehicle for Authorized purposes and ensures, also, that the assigned vehicle is not driven by another person unless authorized.
Adhere to SCI Driving policies & procedures.
Maintains records of logbook for all journeys undertaken, safety of passengers, fuel consumed and other road costs and ensures the logbook is available for inspection at any time and does monthly reports to pool coordinator
Follow up and reports pending inspections, insurance renewal or any defects or problems.
Maintaining all safety and security measures to the vehicle under his/her care.
Ensuring that the vehicle assigned to him/her is clean, fuelled, lubricated and regularly serviced as per schedule.
Keep all tools and reserve tyre with due care. Handles the vehicle and other related accessories and materials with due care.
Cleans all seat belts, the vehicle inside compartments each day and wears the same all times.
Inspect it in a daily base, make minor repair, change tire etc…
Have the SCI logo visibly displayed on SCI vehicle, except where this would jeopardize staff safety or be inappropriate to specific local circumstances.
Park in safe and secure areas all SCI vehicles during working and non-working hours. Parks the vehicle in safe place during night.
Report accidents as occurred immediately.
Adheres to rules and regulations of Save the Children International.
Shows up maximum level of Preparedness /Readiness (Filling fuel, cleaning the vehicle & taking necessary action to ascertain the vehicle is always ready for driving.
Arriving & departing on time at work places and willingness to assist programs in the field
Ensures maximum care and control of the vehicle, always drives as per SCI speed limit, and respecting national legislations.
Follow up of safety procedures and precautions before & while driving SCI vehicle.
Keeping the necessary documents in the vehicle.
Keeping all equipment/tool in the vehicle and making sure it’s working.
Liaison
Facilitate driving license authentication, authentication of documents for government office approval process.
Collect tasks from different department and dispatch to the concerned Save the Children partners and other groups (outgoing message)
Facilitate payment of monthly telephone bill, water bill, electric bill, etc
Collects incoming message or pouches from different agencies and post offices to Save the Children
Assist with Ethio-telecom to process and cancel telecommunication facilities, such as internet connection, SIM cards and telephone lines.
Facilitate and settle different payments in related to Administration.
Assist purchase of maintenance materials and office supplies for office use
Facilitate translation of documents to different language
Liaising and facilitate maintenance of electricity, telephone, and water supply for area office.
Make liaising and logistical works when line manager’s requests.
Performs other related tasks as required.

Skills and qualifications
Completion of 12th grade or 10th grade with current educational system.
Own at least third grade valid driving license or equivalent with new driving licence.
Trained in Safety and Security
Training on 4WD and defensive driving training
At least 3 years of work experience in International NGOs with clean driving record.
Certification in automotive related fields is an added advantage.
Willingness to work over weekends, holidays, and harsh climatic situations.
Knowledge of basic computer skills.
Experience in Liaising/logistical activities is an asset.
Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to work effectively in difficult environments.
Be able to communication in English and understand English written texts.
