Job Description

Organizational Setting

The key mission of the FAO Representation in Somalia, which is led by FAO Representative (FAOR), is to assist and support the national government to develop policies, strategies and programme aimed at accelerating the Implementation and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in FAO’s global mandate and Strategic Objectives. More specifically, FAO’s response aims to address national needs and priorities in achieving food security, reducing hunger and malnutrition, developing agricultural, fishery and forestry sectors, and ensuring the sustainable use of environmental and natural resources and respond to recurrent emergencies. The current portfolio of activities of the FAO Representation in Somalia includes a wide scope of technical support interventions ranging from policy support through livestock and crop production, to natural resource management, Nutrition, value chain, food security analysis and water and land information management. FAO is also implementing several emergency, resilience-building, and development interventions, with the support of its five field offices and close to 400 staff in partnership with the Federal and State line ministries.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Somalia, the Chief Technical Advisor of the FAO Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit and the direct supervision of FSNAU Acting Nutrition Technical Manager.

Technical Focus

The incumbent will provide technical leadership for nutrition assessments, monitoring and analysis in the region (s) for which he/she has been assigned, while ensuring high quality, efficiency, and timeliness in the delivery of the analysis and outputs.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the training and supervision of survey teams during nutrition assessments in assigned region.
• Contribute to capacity development of FSNAU and government staff by supporting and facilitating training on SMART methodology.
• Participate in nutrition related survey data collection and preliminary analysis.
• Ensure accuracy during data collection and data entry (quality control) of survey data and conduct preliminary analysis of nutrition data.
• Prepare and submit monthly nutrition update for assigned region.
• Ensure timely and appropriate dissemination of nutrition information and support understanding, analysis and use of the information among partners.
• As per the FSNAU work plan and in collaboration with partners, provide training to partners in nutrition assessment methodology and analysis as requested.
• Provide nutrition related input to FSNAU publications.
• Represent the FSNAU at local humanitarian and nutrition cluster coordination meetings.
• Liaise and coordinate with FSNAU staff in the assigned region for situation analysis, preparation of reports and planning of significant activities.
• Ensure that local administration is aware of FSNAU nutrition activities and involve them where appropriate.
• Undertake any other duties related to the objectives of the FSNAU project.

Skills and Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

• University degree in nutrition, public health, or any other relevant field from a reputable institution is required.
• At least 4 years of relevant experience in nutrition assessment and analysis preferably in Somalia.
• Working knowledge (level C) of English and Somali.
• National of Somalia.
